But one of the elders said, "Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David has prevailed to open the scroll and loose its seven seals." - Revelations 5:5

Joseph: Bless and Be Like Your Pharaoh

Genesis 47:1-26 how did Joseph get into this position? How did he get this promotion? How was he placed in the position to be a provider? This is a lesson that we all must learn. How can and do we go from the position of the young sheep herder to the position of the great provider in the position of a Pharaoh in the land? Please do not forget when Joseph had the first dream in Genesis 37:2, he was only 17 years of age and did not get to stand in this new position of a Pharaoh ( provider ) until after he was 30 years old Genesis 41:46. Then we know there was a period of 7 years of abundance, Genesis 41:47, followed by 7 years of famine. After 2 years of famine the brothers were brought to Joseph. Therefore we have a 30-17+7+2= 22 year period of POSITION> PROMOTION>PROVISION.

This is what I call and consider the training process of God. He has to prepare His warriors some how and often times it is not by sending us to kindergarten and the life of peace and prosperity. God often times takes His warriors to the training camp of the Most High God.

Never forget, I believe in and walk in the realms of peace and prosperity, I believe there is a time and season for everything in our lives. Here we are dealing with the life of Joseph and the lessons that we can learn to stand in this elite possession of a provider, a Pharaoh in the land. How did Joseph get to this position of PROVISION?

Well, we know one thing for sure-- it took time. We need to get away from what I call the McDonald mentality, where we hit the drive through command and demand from God and when we hit the next window God has to give us what we want. We need to qualify and be found trustworthy for these kinds of positions of provision. Our hearts must be pure in the sight of God; He is the One who promotes the Josephs and Pharaohs of the land.

In Genesis 36:31, we see that Joseph went up to inform Pharaoh. This is how the anointing always flows---down; therefore Joseph had to go up to his head, the person who qualified to stand in the position of Pharaoh over him. Even though he had to go up, he was still in the position to bring advice or to inform the Pharaoh in his life.

What a position of favor! This is what each one of us should desire. Joseph proceeded to tell Pharaoh that his brothers were coming into the land. Then he told the brothers what Pharaoh was going to say. In Genesis 46:33, see, we need to see that this is a great position--to be able to know what the Pharaoh in our lives are going to say and how they will react to each situation.

Just think, this is how we should act with our husbands, wives, bosses, and business associates, Pastors and everyone who is in authority over us. What a position to know how they will talk, what they say, and how they will respond to what we do.

How did Joseph get to this position? Please look at Genesis 44:18 ". Do not be angry with your servants," for you are just like Pharaoh". This is it guys, you must become "just like the Pharaohs" in your life, this only comes by being committed, submitted, faithful, and most of all loyal. You need to be just like those who have authority over you, and then they will be able to trust you. Why? Because they will know you will be just like them.

Notice also in Genesis 47:6, if you know of any qualified men among them; put them in charge of my live stock. Once again here we see the POSITION that Joseph had gained with Pharaoh. Pharaoh knew what ever decisions Joseph made they would be just like Pharaoh making them himself. This is one of the greatest keys in the Kingdom, you must be able to recognize who your Pharaohs are and you need to be committed, submitted, faithful, and loyal to them.

Please understand this is how you promote in the Kingdom of God. The Pharaohs in you life must recognize your faithfulness and loyalty and God promotes you through them. Regardless of all the "stuff" that happened to Joseph he still maintained his integrity and loyalty. Joseph was not unforgiving or bitter for anything that happened to him----he knew that it would all work out for the good.

Pharaoh knows he could trust Joseph with everything and anything, because he qualified. When you are in the field of battle and the bullets are flying, you do not want some uncommitted renegade beside you who gets a command and becomes some loose cannon and goes out and does what ever he thinks is right. God is a God of order! We all must be able to find those who we can trust and submit under, proper headship and leadership is an essential in the Kingdom of God.

This places Joseph in the POSITION of becoming a PROVIDER. Notice how many times just through Genesis 47:11-26 it states how Joseph was in the POSITION of a PROVIDER giving provision to those who needed or were in need.

Gen 47:11 Joseph gave them...

  • 47:12 Joseph provided them
  • 47:14 handled all the money
  • 47:16 Joseph will give you
  • 47:17 Joseph will give you and he provided them
  • 47:20 Joseph acquired all the Land fro Pharaoh
  • 47:23 Joseph acquired it all for Pharaoh

PROVISION, PROVISION, and more PROVISION. I do not care who you are or at what POSITION you are in your life, this lesson is crucial for all of us. Life is about making the best decisions in the right seasons in our lives. Joseph was trained and prepared by God to stand and be Pharaoh's right hand man. You only get to this when you qualify. I pray this helps each one of us be the best we can be for the Lord that we serve.
