« Doctrines :: Old Covenant/ Ten Commandments/The Sabbath

I would like to ask you a question. How many of you have been taught that we are a Spiritual Jew and that we can fulfill all the old covenant laws and the 10 commandments?
I remember a time in my spiritual life when I was taught we were to follow the 10 commandments, and that once we became a Christian, by the power of the Spirit, we could satisfy or follow the 10 commandments and/or the old covenant laws.
There are many of you who have been taught this, right? Be honest with yourself. Right now, you are probably thinking you can satisfy them and have been following or satisfying them all your Christian life.
Then let me ask you to do this. Just name the 10 commandments right now. Write them down without looking them up.
Be honest…name all 10 of them in order--or just name the 10. Let me know if you can.
Now let me be clear about this---the rabbi believes in the Torah---these are just the first five books of the old covenant: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. In these first five books, there are 613 commandments (mitzvot) that one must follow.
We as Gentile believers, for some unknown reason, believe that we are to follow the old covenant, not even realizing what the covenant was and is to us as Gentiles. How can we follow 613 laws if we do not know what they are? You cannot. Do YOU know them all?
I was sitting with a good friend a while ago, “discussing” this issue about the old covenant. He felt that since he was filled with the Holy Spirit, he was fulfilling the old covenant. So we did some hard work around the house and then proceeded out for something to eat at a rather large buffet. This was also on a Saturday (the Sabbath). I said to him, “Please, don’t get offended, but you have just violated 2 major commandments of the old covenant, here, in just a few minutes.” He was eating bacon, ham and sausage on the Sabbath, after doing work on the Sabbath.
This was, and is, a direct violation of the old covenant. Because of lack of knowledge, many of us have been taught, and actually mislead, that we should and can fulfill the old covenant---when in actuality, this is what the Lord has REDEEMED US FROM.
Did you know, if you, your daughter, son, employee, cattle or oxen, did work on the Sabbath, you were to surely be put to death? Please let me share this with you from the 10 commandments in regard to the Sabbath----
**SABBATH VIOLATION (work on Saturday)**
Exodus 20:8-11 “Remember the Sabbath to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh is a Sabbath of the Lord your God; in it you shall not do any work--you, or your son, or your daughter, your male or female servant or your cattle or your sojourner who stays with you. For in six days, the Lord made the heavens and the earth and on the seventh day He rested. Therefore, the Lord blessed the Sabbath and made it holy.” Exodus 31:14-15 “Anyone who profanes the Sabbath shall surely be put to death. And anyone who does any work on the Sabbath shall surely be put to death.”
Praise the Lord for the NEW COVENANT AND HIS GRACE. Why is it, today, that we can VIOLATE this commandment and still be alive? The revelation of the mystery of the New Covenant---there is now a new and better covenant for us as GENTILES to follow today---a BETTER COVENANT established (enacted) on BETTER PROMISES.
So many Gentile believers today say they fulfill the old covenant by walking in the Spirit. NO, you fulfill the NEW COVENANT if you walk according to the Spirit. The old has been done away with. So why do so many want to hold onto the OLD?
“The ministry of death” (2 Cor. 3:7) is what the Apostle Paul called the old covenant.
I love to reveal the old covenant laws regarding eating. Since WE GENTILE BELIEVERS LOVE TO EAT ANYTHING, let me discuss just a FEW---
**A FEW DIETARY LAWS***
Leviticus 11:7 “…and the pig…it is UNCLEAN TO YOU---DETESTABLE.” So if you are a Gentile believer who says he is fulfilling the old covenant by walking in the Spirit, you cannot eat any ham, bacon, sausage or pork barbeque. If you have, under the old covenant, you are considered unclean.
Look at Leviticus 11:12 “Whatever is in the water that does not have scales and fins is abhorrent (detestable) to you.” Therefore, is you are a Gentile who wants to be a proselyte, (a person who wants to be of another religion--in this case, and old covenant Jew) you cannot eat any lobster, shrimp, scallops, clams, oysters or crabs.
I do not want you to feel a heavy burden and think you need to observe and follow these laws, because under the NEW COVENANT, you do not. This is the beauty of the New Covenant to us as Gentile Believers! I hope this simply reveals a little of the difference between old and New Covenant beliefs.
Like I said before, there are 613 "mitzvot" laws just in the Torah, the first five books of the old covenant, and over 3000 in the whole old covenant. No wonder the Jews said it was a "heavy yoke" to carry, that neither they, or their fathers were able to bear. (Acts 15:10)
It amazes me how many people love to hear this revelation once they begin to see the truth of it. The truth will set you free!
I simply want you to understand the differences of the two covenants. We as Gentile believers need to understand that we are under a NEW and BETTER COVENANT established on better promises. It was the birth, death, burial and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ that established this new and better covenant!! Praise the Lord!
