« Doctrines :: The Great Sheet Revelation

The Great Sheet Revelation
The "Great sheet revelation" is one of the most important revelations to see in understanding the revelation of the mystery of the New Covenant. See, most of us who are “Gentiles "think the day of Pentecost found in Acts 2 was for us (Gentiles), when in all reality IT WAS NOT!See, you must understand that the Gentiles did not receive the Holy Spirit until after Peter received the GREAT SHEET REVELATION. Until this time Gentiles never received the Holy Spirit. Therefore, what we have been taught in the past was for Jewish believers and not full-blooded Gentiles.
Let's take a close look into God's word together. Peter saw a Great Sheet coming down out of heaven that had three distinct types of beings in it: crawling creatures, animals, and birds of the air. A voice came out of heaven and said "Rise, Peter. Kill and eat." (Acts 10:16) This happened three times then the sheet was taken up. Peter was greatly perplexed about this (Acts 10:17-19) You need to see that it was the Holy Spirit that told him to go without making a distinction---"make no distinction"(Acts 10:34 NASB)(In some translations it says, "show no partiality", but the Greek says "distinction".)
Why would the Spirit have told him this? Because this was a NEW COVENANT that was being established. It was different from the Old one. See, in the Old Covenant they were specifically told to distinguish--"make a distinction-- between these things". Look at Leviticus 20:25-27. Amazing how it is the same wording but opposite. "You ARE TO MAKE A DISTINCTION between the clean and the unclean animals, between the unclean and the clean birds, and you shall not make yourselves detestable by any crawling things." Three specific groups: creeping things, animals, and birds of the air.In the Old Covenant they were to “make a distinction". What we see in Acts would then appear to be a contradiction IF you did not see the revelation of the Mystery of the NEW COVENANT. This was a new and better Covenant established on better promises. (Heb 8:6)The Holy Spirit specifically told PETER to make no distinction but to sacrifice--to kill and eat. How is this important to us? What would you do if something like this happened to you today? You would be astonished and greatly perplexed just like Peter was. Why? Because this was NOT what was written (canonized) in the Old Covenant. In the Old Covenant you were to make a distinction between these crawling creatures, animals and birds of the air.
You must continue to read what happened!God dispatched an angel to a man by the name of Cornelius, and told him that Peter had a message for them to listen to Cornelius had all his friends and relatives there-- at this meeting, there might have been more than in attendance in Acts 2---We know of 120 found there in Acts 2. Acts 11:15 says this, "As I began to speak the Holy Spirit fell on them (GENTILES) just as He did on us (JEWS) in the beginning".
As we have learned, "in the beginning" was 7-10 years earlier! Until this revelation of the GREAT SHEET, Gentiles had never received the baptism in the Holy Spirit. (Acts 11:15)..... "... then God has granted to the Gentiles also the repentance that leads to life." (Acts 11:18)
This is extremely important for us to see as Gentile believers! 7-10 years is a long time for the early church to be built without Gentiles in it.Now then, the next important issue that you will see the early church had to decide upon was this:
What were they to do with these Gentile believers? Were they to circumcise the Gentiles and direct them to observe the laws of Moses? See, they ( JEWS) understood that the Old Covenant was written to God's people, the Jews, but when this revelation occurred, the Jews were astonished,(Acts 10:45)because the Gentiles now received the Holy Spirit. What do we now do with these Gentiles?
