OUR DOCTRINES & BELIEFS - Thoughts from the Battlefield
DOCTRINE--According to Vine's Expository Dictionary of Greek and Hebrew Words, doctrine means "teaching" or "what is taught".
In this section of our website, I will try to place into words what has been taught from the pulpit to our congregation. It is sad to say that doctrine over the years has not brought the body of Christ together. Often times, it has caused great division and separation in the body of Christ. We believe that we (believers in Jesus Christ) are the body of Christ, the church. The church is not where we decide to park our flesh for one hour on Sunday morning.
The church is a living organism--not an organization. Why do you think we have First United, Second United, First Assembly, Second Assembly, First Pentecostal, Second Pentecostal??? We need to UNITE and not divide. We need to get away from the competitive spirit that flows in so many areas of the church today. I hear many say "We are the best." "We have the best." We are this, we are that. WE need to be a body that has many members, but are of the same body---UNITED even though they are different.
Ephesians 3:3 "...and by referring to this when you read you can understand my insight into the "mystery of Christ", which for generations has been hidden, but has now been revealed to the holy apostles and prophets in the Spirit." We believe and teach that there is a mystery of Christ, hidden within the scriptures that for thousands of generations people have been seeking and trying to figure out.
Men have made their own doctrines in order to try to box God up. Do not get me wrong---some doctrines are good---but in reality, are not good when they are used to damage, separate, and divide the Body of Christ into fractured and segmented pieces. The Word of God should exhort, edify and uplift.
Following, is my feeble attempt to preach and teach the revelation of the mystery of Christ. Please understand that we are not all exactly alike. Do not major on the minor issues, or minor on the majors of our doctrines.
